St. Michael’s Karate Club is a non-political, non-profit making, fully insured family friendly martial arts club offering instruction and in-depth training in the Shitoryu/Shukokai style of karate. We are part of Kobe Osaka England Karate Association, an organisation which is a full member of Kobe Osaka International Karate-do Renmei (KOI).

Our aim is to provide a safe, friendly and disciplined environment to allow karate-ka (students) to progress in their study of karate, personal fitness, self awareness and confidence. This will be achieved by following the dojo (training hall) creed, this being:

Humility – Sincerity – Respect – Purity – Endeavour – Patience – Loyalty

Andrew is forty years old and has been practising karate for thirteen years, attaining his black belt after six years training. Before this he trained for five years in boxing. He made the transition from boxing to karate after deciding that at twenty-six years old he was getting too old to continue boxing at any level. His father Ken Collingwood 3rd Dan encouraged him to take up karate in 1994 and he has continued to train and teach ever since.

Andrew is registered as a Kobe Osaka England Instructor, has attended many courses on coaching, refereeing, self-defence, national and international training camps under the instruction of many top, world-renowned karate instructors. He is Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) enhanced check passed, has attended several courses on ‘Safeguarding and Protecting Children’, qualified and licensed in control and restraint procedures up to the level of United Kingdom police forces and is an advanced first aider qualified in the use of electronic defibrillators.

I no longer run my own club since taking up early retirement. I was a founder member of ST, Michaels Karate club in Salisbury, which since relocating to Derbyshire I handed over the club to my son Andrew who has taken the club on to be very successful. I still keep contact with the club and the others in the southwest area and take part in the courses and gradings held there. I also attend training sessions at St Michaels whenever I can. I am rated as Third Dan and am currently The Vice Chairman of Kobe Osaka England, and remain very active within the organization.
